It's YOUR Body
Introduction
I overheard something in a restaurant several years ago that has stayed with me and helps me resist some of the unhealthy habits we all struggle against.
One gentleman was explaining his deep belief that his bad eating habits would not kill him because only God decides when someone will die.
He went on for several minutes detailing instances that proved his point; about a friend who did everything healthy and yet dropped dead of a heart attack before he was old enough to retire, and compared that to a grandparent who smoked, drank alchohol, ate everything cooked in lard, and lived to the age of 80.
The second gentleman agreed with the belief that they would both live as long as God wished it. He wasn't worried about death. But if The Good Lord decided to let him live long enough to see his great grandchildren graduate from college, he wanted to walk to the auditorium on his own power, not be wheeled in on a stretcher hooked to machines.
His point made quite an impression on me. I like the idea of experiencing the rest of my years with an active body, not a broken one.
But I quickly found out that not all Good Advice was really the right advice for me. The books and pamphlets in the doctor's office, the magazine articles, even the chart on packages of food that I buy, keep giving nutrition advice and ratings for an "average" someone.
When I stand before the mirror every morning, I don't see anyone "average" looking back at me. None of us is exactly average. We are all different height, weight, lifestyle, and genetic makeup.
It's up to YOU to pay attention to YOUR body and do some analysis to see if you need more, or less, of anything.
